ArcelorMittal tries to keep galvanized steel prices high in Europe

This week ArcelorMittal released official galvanized steel prices for EU customers, almost in line with pre-holiday levels. Offers for HRC and CRC have not yet been announced.

ArcelorMittal is offering galvanized steel to European customers at €1,160/t (base price included), close to the ceiling set by the EU's main steel market at the end of December. ArcelorMittal did not offer offers for galvanized steel or cold rolled coil this week. However, according to sources, the company has informed its customers that it intends to increase prices in the near future.

Galvanized steel prices in Eastern Europe were also close to ArcelorMittal's levels this week. Hungarian suppliers are offering galvanized steel at a base price of €1,150/t EXW for February and March delivery, with the latest price announced in Slovakia at the same level.

Eastern European producers are also trying to raise their HRC and CRC prices by €20/t from the end of December. The price of hot rolled steel in Slovakia is EUR 920/t (EXW). Hungarian and Slovak CRC are supplied at a base price of €1,000/t EXW and €1,020/t EXW, respectively.

At the same time, the Slovakian supplier intends to increase the price of the product by another €50/t.

However, buyers are not ready to accept these levels. “The mood is not very positive,” shared an Eastern European source.

In Italy, coil prices are much lower. An integrated supplier is offering HRC and galvanized steel at €1,045/t, base price inclusive of delivery. HRC is offered at €860/t base price incl. delivery from an integrated supplier in Italy.
